Legal expert to discuss historic Rockwell Kent court case at MMAM (01/02/2013)
In celebration of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) exhibition, The Art of Rockwell Kent: Images from a Wandering Man, the Museum is pleased to announce that legal expert Kent Gernander will be presenting a free, unique and intriguing discussion. The program is titled Rockwell Kentís Historic Passport Case and will take place at the Museum on Wednesday, January 23rd from 6 - 7pm.

Rockwell Kent was many things Ė painter, illustrator, builder, writer and dairy farmer. For much of his life, he was also an adventurous and inquisitive traveler. Kentís sympathies for progressive causes and his associations with organizations many considered radical, led the U.S. State Department to refuse him a passport for travel abroad during the 1950ís. This resulted in a landmark case that made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Join Streater & Murphy PA attorney Kent Gernander as he discusses the conflict, its context, and the ruling. Gain fascinating insights into Kentís life, and the legal and political issues of mid-century America as it relates to the case.

This program is a part of Rockwell Kent in Winona: A Centennial Celebration. For more information about the Celebration and its many exhibitions, events, and programs, visit www.RockwellKentWinona.org. This program is free thanks to support from Ernest and Sally Micek in memory of W.B. ďBillĒ Gautsch.
