Schuppenhauer, Harold E. (01/06/2013)
Harold E. Schuppenhauer, 88, of Winona, was called to his eternal home Monday, December 31, 2012, with his family at his side, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center, Mankato, Minn., due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Harold was born June 25, 1924, to Edwin and Mary (Holzworth) Schuppenhauer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. On June 21, 1947, he married Donna M. Stevens at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona. He was employed at Northwestern Bell for over 41 years, retiring April 1, 1988. He was a lifelong active member of St. Matthew’s and served on the church council and many committees. He was a former board member of Sauer Health Care and a past president of the local CWA Union. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a role model to many.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna, daughter, Louise (Mark) Sexton, North Mankato, Minn.; son, Steven (Carrie) Schuppenhauer, Eagan, Minn.; five grandchildren: Brent (Kate) Sexton, Tim (fiancée Stephanie Dwyer) Sexton, Sarah Schuppenhauer, Jennifer (Dave) Licht, and Kyle (Jayme) Schuppenhauer; four great- grandchildren: Carter, Ty and Blake Sexton and Treven Licht; a sister, Ethel (Verle) Smith, New Hope, Minn.; brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ruth Johnson and a brother, Donald Schuppenhauer.

Services to remember Harold were Friday, January 4, 2013, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Paul F. Welke officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, with military burial honors by the VFW Neville-Lien Post 1287, Winona.

Casket bearers were Harold’s nephews. Honorary casket bearers were his grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Pastor Carl Ziemer for the spiritual care that he has given to Harold this past month.
