On Wednesday, January 9, at 5:54 p.m. the Trempealeau County Dispatch Center received a call of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on Washington Street (State Road 93) near Third Street in Independence, Wis.
The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department and Independence Police Department responded to the crash and found an unresponsive female and began first aid. Medical personnel arrived and performed CPR on the victim, who was transported to Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the striking vehicle was taken to Tri-County Hospital for a legal blood draw, which is standard procedure in fatal crashes. The driver was then interviewed and released. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The investigation is ongoing and no names are being released at this time.
