Gerald P. Simon, age 65, of Minnesota City, Minn., passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, at his home.
Jerry was born on May 6, 1947, in Winona, Minn., to Gerald J. and Grace (Pierzina) Simon. He was united in marriage with Judy Zeise on September 8, 1973, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona.
He farmed for many years in Middle Valley in Rollingstone Township.
Jerry’s passion was life on the farm, including his love for gardening. He was always interested in how things worked and would often tinker with many different machines. He was very social and loved to talk on the telephone with all of his friends. He also enjoyed working with community organizations throughout the years including: Winona Area Jaycees and the AACA Viking Car Club. He was enthusiastic about classic cars, specifically his ’63 Chevy Impala convertible. Within the past 10 years, he had fallen in love with Hawaii, which he had the great pleasure of traveling to six times.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy, Minnesota City, Minn.; children: Michelle (Steven) Sitta, Lake City, Minn., and Melissa Simon, Minnesota City, Minn., grandson: Brayden Sitta; sisters: Audrey Costello, Rochester, Minn., and Yvonne Randall, Hampton, Va; brother-in-law: Ron (Sherry) Zeise, Denton, Tex; his beloved dog, Lady; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, John Costello and Richard Randall; and a sister-in-law, Mary Zeise.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Rollingstone, Minn. The Reverend Willam Kulas will officiate.
Jerry will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Pallbearers will be: LeRoy Scherbring, Rick Hauser, Blake Hauser, Tom Costello, Tony Clark, and Dennis Pierzina.
