Dorothy R. (Modrzejewski) Ahearn, age 100, formerly of 423 Center Street, Winona, Minn., died on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Roger Metz Manor in Winona.
Dorothy was born on July 23, 1912, in Winona, Minn., to Vincent and Josepha (Kukowska) Modrzejewski. On September 29, 1936, she was united in marriage to Arnold G. Ahearn; he preceded her in death on August 22, 1990.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Young at Heart, and the Precious Moment’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and dancing. Most of all, Dorothy loved being with her children, grandchildren and her extended family.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Diane Holzworth, Winona, Minn., Joan (Robert) Miller, Mason City, Iowa, and Sally (Alan) Kotschevar, Winona, Minn.; grandchildren, Lori (Holzworth) Solomonson, Plymouth, Minn., Jeff Holzworth, Winona, Minn., Brian (Lynn Sylla) Holzworth, Holmen, Wis., Mike (Lisa Bratrud) Miller, Mason City, Iowa, Mark (Holly Brodersen) Miller, Mason City, Iowa, Katie (Jay) Miller-Eide, Mason City, Iowa, and Alex Kotschevar, Rochester, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Andrew, William and Emma Solomonson, Nathaniel and Carson Holzworth, Austin, Dylan and Brayden Miller, Ean and Bennett Miller, and Logan and Kayla Eide; sisters, Marcella Langowski, Gertrude Gabrych, and Sylvia Konkel, all of Winona, Minn.; brothers, Edmund Modrzejewski and James Modjeski, of California; sister-in-law, Evelyn Modjeski, Winona, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, Roy Holzworth; sisters, Mildred and Josephine; and brothers, Alfred, Mark, and Vincent, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Richard M. Colletti will officiate.
Dorothy will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester, Minn.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m.. There will not be any visitation held on Thursday – please meet at the Basilica for Mass.
Pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to Roger Metz Manor, the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, or the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
