Marjorie Loretta Burch, 74, of Winona, and formerly from Piqua, Ohio, lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on Friday, January 11, 2013, at home surrounded by her family.
Marjorie was born on April 9, 1938, in Piqua, Ohio, to Jerome and Ellen (Howe) Steinke. She graduated from Lehman Catholic High School in Piqua in 1956. Marjorie married her high school sweetheart, Denver Burch, on May 25, 1957, and together they raised six children. Shortly after moving to Goodview in 1979, Marjorie began working at St. Anne Extended Healthcare as a kitchen manager and head cook. For over 20 years, she prepared delicious dishes for the staff and residents until macular degeneration forced her to retire in 2000. For many years, Marjorie and Denver were members at First Baptist Church in Winona.
Survivors include her six children; Christine (Kenneth Payne) Burch of Minneapolis, Minn., Debra (James) Ernst of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Patty (John Jr.) Durnen of Rushford, Minn., Lori (Joe) Luby of Winona, Minn., Barbara Burch of I.G.H, Minn., and Jerry (Jane) Burch of Winona, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; Lucy, Molly, Shaw, Mike, Nick, Ellie, Stefan, Cassondra, Wesley, Treyton, Tyler, Tanner, Callie, Jaida, and Janessa; seven great-grandchildren, Kinsey, Kendall, Klayton, Callen, Hannah, Gavin, and Ava; younger sister, Rita “Renie” (Tom) Huffman of Piqua, Ohio, many nieces and nephews; and extended family and in-laws in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Denver, in 2010; infant son, Jeff, and aunts and uncles.
A memorial service was held on January 15, 2013, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview. Pastor Dennis Hudson of First Baptist Church officiated. Burial will take place in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Winona Area Hospice, Telecare of Winona Health, or First Baptist Church.
