Second amendment seriously out of date (01/30/2013)
From: Dennis Jennings

The Amendment to the Constitution reads as follows: ďA well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.Ē September 15, 1791.

That sentence is written with a comma between the two parts and is bonded together forever. When was the last time in modern history a state had to form a militia to protect its citizens? We have city police, county sheriffs, state troopers and the National Guard to protect us. If you form a militia and attack the United States to grab land to create your own country, as one religious group tried to do, you are committing treason.

Any gun which its sole purpose is to kill people should be banned to all citizens and given to legal law enforcement and armed forces only. That includes semi-automatic handguns and assault rifles and any gun that resembles or mimics a military assault rifle, even if advertised as a hunting rifle, should be banned.

The amendment was ratified at a time when the United States had been engaged in a revolutionary war with one of the strongest military powers in the world. Every man had to be a citizen soldier and have a gun so he could run to the battle front to fight the British. We were seriously out-numbered and out-gunned.

The founding fathers in their wildest dreams could not conceive of the evolution of modern guns. Even in the Wild West most cities had strict gun regulations. No one was allowed to walk the streets with a gun strapped to his hips. Some nations donít allow guns of any kind to be owned by its citizens.

This Amendment to the Constitution has to be revisited by the Supreme Court. It has no relevance to modern life.

I think within the next four years we will see a change in the makeup of the Supreme Court and I think they will find it seriously out of date.
