Squires named editor of expanded Winona Post news team (01/30/2013)
Sarah Squires has been named editor of the Winona Post.

Squires’ promotion is not the only recent change in the newsroom. Reporter Emily Buss is nearing her first anniversary with the Post, and was recently named one of three “New Journalist[s] of the Year” by the Minnesota Newspaper Association. Along with new reporter Chris Rogers, the team of three represents an expanded news department at the Winona Post, offering readers even more exclusive, in-depth local news coverage than ever before.

Squires came to the Winona Post in 2006 after serving as reporter and editor of the Pope County Tribune and the Granite Falls Advocate Tribune, respectively. As editor, she will continue to provide the kind of award-winning reporting of county government and rural issues that Winona Post readers have come to expect. She will also oversee editorial operations in the newsroom.

Former editor-in-chief, co-founder, and owner of the Winona Post, Frances Edstrom, will serve as publisher of the newspaper. Former publisher and co-founder, John Edstrom, passed away last summer, after leading the newspaper for more than 40 years.

Buss, a Rochester native, joined the Winona Post in February 2012, and has covered a variety of local issues during her tenure. Rogers, originally from Missouri, has been a reporter for the Post since late last year. Buss will focus her talents on coverage of educational institutions in the region, while Rogers will handle city of Winona news along with law enforcement reporting.
