Sikorski, Bernice M. (02/03/2013)

Bernice M. “Skip” Sikorski, age 85, of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Skip was born on August 23, 1927, in Minneiska, Minn., to John and Catherine (Nepper) Wieser. She was united in marriage with Robert J. “Speed” Sikorski, on June 20, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska; he preceded her in death on March 27, 2006.

She worked at Kresge’s in Winona, and for many years worked as a custodian at Winona Senior High School. She was a member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church.

Skip will be remembered for always having a jar of Tootsie Rolls ready as a treat, and for her love of yard work, canning, pickling and gardening. She especially enjoyed raising roses and vegetables, and she had a knack for growing big tomatoes, onions, and radishes. Skip looked forward to having her family at her house for the holidays and cooking a big meal – if she ever knew of anyone who didn’t have a place to go on the holidays, she made sure that they were welcome at her house. Most of all, Skip’s family was very important to her – especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Skip is survived by her children: Pam (Jim) Kowalczyk, Winona; Laurie (Scott) Graves, Winona; Cindy McGill, Minnesota City; Lisa (Robert “Bubba”) Muras, Winona; grandchildren: Amy (Mark) Hugunin; Andrea (Mark) Hermann; Amber (fiancé Brandon) Kowalczyk; Adam (Beth) Kowalczyk; Jeremy (Wendy) Graves; Jamie Graves; Riley McGill; David (Jessi) Muras; and Brandon Muras; great-grandchildren: Trinity, Caiden, Sidney, Evan, Camille, Alexis, Connor, Landon, Gavin, and two others on-the-way; special friends: Patty and Chuck Buchmiller; Bob and Joanne Petersen; and Fr. Don Lovas; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers: Ralph and Omar Wieser; an infant sister, Mary; and a son-in-law, Earl Graves.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5. 2013, at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Winona. The Reverend Donald J. Lovas will officiate.

A private family burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where Fr. Lovas will lead a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
