Wantock, Dorothy Frances (02/06/2013)

Dorothy Frances Wantock, 90, of Winona, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Callista Court.

She was born May 14, 1922, in Winona, to Carl and Valeria (Zakrzewski) Rieger. She graduated from Winona Senior High School. On Sept. 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Edmund Wantock at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. Edmund preceded her in death on May 14, 2012. They have one son, Richard (Yvonne ) Wantock.

Dorothy was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. She was also a member of Harvest House, the Polish Museum Society, Eagles Women’s Auxiliary, the American Legion and VFW. Dorothy was proud of being one of the first of three hires for Emil’s root beer stand on Sarnia Street at 16 years of age. She retired from Schwab Construction Company where she served as a secretary and receptionist for many years. She and Ed enjoyed visiting the casinos in Las Vegas for many winters and in their later years traveled via bus to Treasure Island.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard (Yvonne) Wantock; grandchildren: Donald (Lisa) Wantock and Kari Wantock; great-grandsons: Joe and Sam Wantock; brothers-in-law: Donald (Mary Lou) Wantock and George “Fritz” Grupa; sister-in-law, Doreen Rieger; nephews: William Curbow and Michael Grupa; nieces: Sharon (Roger) Brown, Nancy (Argan) Johnson and Susie (Max) Paap; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; brother, Frank Rieger; sisters-in-law: Teresa Curbow, Delores Grupa and Loretta Wantock; and brother-in-law, Joseph Wantock.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Dorothy will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Thursday, February 7, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be considered to the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka or to Cotter High School.
