Recently, lifelong Winona musician Jeff Gappa passed away due to cancer. Jeff’s wife, Patty could use a little help. Jeff was well-liked and known by hundreds. Jeff played with many bands over the years like Jeff and the Tobaggans, Swingshift, Sam’s Riviera Boys, Old Roadhog, The Dave Clark III, Brushfire, and TSS, to name just a few. And of course his most popular band, The Gopher Traps. Jeff was a skilled guitarist and very good singer/harmonizer.
Play and sing with us all Saturday February 16, at 7:30 P.M. at the Blackhorse. Jeff’s friends and the general public are invited to remember Jeff and his widow, Patty, as many area musicians celebrate our friendship with Jeff over the past 57 years.(He’s WAY older than me.)
There are no rules. Just show up and play. It wouldn’t hurt to bring an instrument. Musicians don’t have to ask permission to plug in or to sing. It’s a “free for all.”
The Baby Boomer Boogie Band/The Classic Rockers will help keep the music rolling along with no delays.
This is not a benefit, however, if we each kick in a buck or two this will help. The BBBBand will kick in as well.
Let’s have some fun playing and singing some of Jeff’s favorite music from country rock/folk/jazz/bluegrass/Eastern Hindu Guru sitar love songs, to rock and roll. I recall two distinct songs that always remind me of Jeff when he played with The Sensational Sixtys band...”8 Days a week” and “Hey Joe” (the up-tempo version.) I’m sure you guys recall some as well you’d like to play and sing.
The photo shown is of Jeff and Tom Kohner and Steve Rodriguez Pientok in the band called “Grand Funk Railroad,” however, after litigation with some band from Michigan, (and subsequent injunction) they were forced to change their name to “Roadhog.” (Record sales plummeted.)
We hope to see you ALL Sat. 2-16-13 Starting 7:30 P.M. at the Blackhorse, Winona, Mn.
