Valentine essay winner! (02/13/2013)
Still the one

From: Anonymous

Remember that song by Shania Twain that was popular in the mid to late 90s? Thats when we first met. I still consider that to be our song even though Im more of a rock and roll guy.

The first time I met her, there was of course a physical attraction. I remember thinking, shes really a cutie. She had this way of looking at you, turning her head slightly and smiling. It just sort of melted my heart. After a few times of seeing her, I found she had a deep inner beauty as well. She is kindhearted, honest, smart, and has a good sense of humor, which is important, because Im a funny guy. Not so much for telling jokes, but for playing practical jokes. Nothing mean, cruel or hurtful. Just things like taping shoes to the ceiling, or hanging underwear in the trees. There were differences also. For example: shes Diet Coke, Im Diet Pepsi; shes football, Im baseball. Differences are good. Variety helps us to learn and widen our view of the things around us.

Here is how I knew she was The One. We could be sitting across from each other engaged in conversation, and Id look into the magic of her eyes. All at once, conversation ended, the world stopped turning, and we were the only people on earth. I would get so lost in her eyes. All I wanted to do was hold her in my arms, feel our hearts beating together, and continue to hold her in my arms forever. I knew in those moments there could be no one else.

Its important that I remain anonymous. Im just an average dude. Im not very big, and it takes a lot to maintain my tough guy image. If my coworkers ever read this and knew it was me, Id be toast and I mean milquetoast.

My love, if you read this youll know its from me to you. Now that this essay is done, I want you to know that after almost 16 years, Youre Still the One.
