Goodview, Minn.
Regarding the Goodview City Council’s recent decision to turn down a nearly $300,000 grant for a nine-block section of sidewalk, which would have provided a huge degree of safety for the school kids that walk that route every school day. Obviously a very vocal minority convinced the city fathers that the project would have caused an extreme amount of hardship for the homeowners along that route, which overruled the well-being of Goodview’s school children. At a time when the whole country is extremely concerned with protecting our kids from violence in the schools, Goodview turns down “free money” and keeps putting them in danger by forcing them to walk in the streets. How stupid! This “vocal minority” should be ashamed of themselves by putting their petty interests over the safety of the kids. I hope that this decision does not come back to haunt them in the future. I would not want the gravity of a possible pedestrian accident to be on my conscience. You can’t prevent a gun-toting wacko from shooting up a school, but you can deter a potentially dangerous texting/cell phone driver by putting the children on the sidewalk out of harm’s way. Think about it! The council had it right the first time, but this last vote really screwed up a good, safe thing. What were you thinking?
