From: Russell Marsolek
I wish to communicate on how I disapprove of most, if not all of the recently proposed “gun control” measures being discussed statewide, or even nationally. These proposals are a DIRECT attack on our 2nd amendment rights, guaranteed to us in the Constitution of the United States of America! Our elected leaders took an oath (as did I, over 30 years ago!) to protect and defend the Constitution! Not to destroy the Constitution.
I am not without sadness over the recent school shootings. Yes, anyone in their right mind will agree that this was a tragedy. But these tragedies are committed, NOT by the 99.999999% of us who are law abiding citizens. So why penalize us for those few that do commit those terrible acts?
What I want from our elected leaders is to concentrate on CRIMINAL CONTROL, and not GUN CONTROL! The guns are not the problem. The criminals, or those who have mental issues, who have access to guns are the problem.
While only remotely related to this topic, more people are killed in automobile accidents where alcohol is involved every year than by guns. So is the “car” the problem? No….it is the alcohol impaired driver. And yet, 33% of DUI’s are repeat offenders! And please name for me any car that cannot achieve 80 MPH? Why do we need cars that can go that fast? I hope that you see my point. It is not the car, or the fact that they can go 80 MPH. The same holds true with magazine size, or the gun itself. Blame the criminal, not the 99.999999% of us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter to the editor.
