I started taking the math test that the high school kids have to take to graduate, that was in the paper. I gave up after 11 questions.
I’m over 60 years old. Never in my whole life have I confronted hardly any of those kind of math problems. Never in regular life will anyone have to figure that kind of stuff out, unless you’re in a specific job that requires that kind of figuring. Most people will never need to figure out those kind of questions. Why can’t the questions be more practical; more like math problems people face on a daily basis, AND WITHOUT HAVING TO USE A CALCULATOR. That’s what knowing math is to me. Most kids don’t know the basic math, much less whatever kind of math is tested. And the wording of the questions asked was puzzling to me. What are they asking me to do? I would have flunked really bad if I had taken the time to finish the test, and I’m doing fine in life. The point I’m trying to make is kids need to learn BASIC math, without electronic, i.e., calculator help. Most don’t even know how to do that very well.
