I‘m writing to clarify a few things contained in the article about the Community Garden in Sunday’s Post.
First, the community garden is not looking for farmland. We are looking for a lot in the city suitable for gardening; full sun, access to water, soil that can be easily amended, and easy to get to by city residents, for a long-term lease.
Second, we have received no official letter from Winona Health informing us of their plans. The email quoted was in response to our inquiry about the 2013 season and was between liasons of both our organizations.
Third, negotiations with Winona Health about a lease for a shortened 2013 gardening season are in process and not finalized.
Last, we have had no official meeting with the city of Winona, just an introduction to our organization and situation with the new mayor. We are hoping the city will consider alloting city land for a community garden for residents, but remain open to all reasonable garden land options within the city.
