Elfa M. Kochenderfer, age 96, of Fountain City, Wis., died Saturday, February 23, 2013, at St. Michael’s Assisted Living, Fountain City, Wis.
Elfa Marie was born August 21, 1916, in the Town of Belvidere, Buffalo County, Wis., to Julius and Minnie (Bade) Stirn. She married William Kochenderfer in 1939 in Decorah, Iowa. He preceded her in death April 30, 1993.
Elfa graduated from Cochrane High School and Buffalo County Normal School and taught school several years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Fountain City, and belonged to many of its organizations. She was a charter member of the Fountain City Area Historical Society along with other community activities.
She is survived by two daughters: Linda Kochenderfer, Onalaska, Wis.; Judith (Charles) Skarie, Midlothian, Va; two grandchildren: Laura Skarie, Moseley, Va., and Paul (Jen) Skarie, Brookfield, Wis.; and two great-grandsons, Jackson Skarie and Conor Skarie.
Elfa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, and two brothers, Henry Stirn and Clarence Stirn.
Services and interment will be held at a later date.
