Winona City Manager, Judith Bodway, is pleased to announce the appointment of Winona Fire Captain Curt Bittle to the position of Fire Chief.
Captain Bittle has a total of 23 years of fire service experience. He started with the Winona Fire Department in 1992 as a part-time firefighter. Several months later he was promoted to a full-time position. Curt has an AAS degree in Intensive Care Paramedic. He is the first paramedic in the Winona Fire Department, which currently has 13 paramedics in its full time ranks. Curt oversees all Emergency Medical Services Training and operations. He has authored all EMS and mass casualty protocols for the department. Curt is also the lead instructor in all ice rescue and swift water rescue training for the department.
In 2007, Curt was promoted to the position of fire captain and is currently the senior captain of his assigned shift. Curt will officially take over the lead of the fire department on June 1. Curt resides in Winona with his wife, Candy and his two daughters, Carlie and Cassidy.
