Rosella M. (Rotering) Burfeind, 92, of Fountain City, passed into eternal life Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at her home in Bluff Siding. Wis.
Rosie was born May 25, 1920, in Buffalo County, Wis., to Lawrence and Theresa (Schlessor) Rotering. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Winona, Minn. Rosie had fond memories of growing up in Arcadia, Wis., including the home farm, attending a one-room school house, and large family gatherings after church. She was united in marriage to Vernon Burfeind on June 20, 1951.
Rosie moved to Winona in 1941, and worked at different jobs over the years including being a nanny to Max Conrad’s children, serving customers at Kresge’s Dime Store and Casablanca’s sewing at Winona Knitting Mills, and making delicious deli food at Randall’s Grocery. After retirement in 1991, she enjoyed volunteering at Winona Volunteer Services for 20 years.
People were her pastime, whether they were family members, friends, or strangers. Her hands were busy caring for her family, making wonderful home-cooked meals, sewing beautiful quilts, holding children and babies, and praying the rosary, because that was where her heart was. Those who were blessed by her sewing skills often shared memories of clothing she lovingly made for them. Her welcoming smile and sense of humor will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children: Jim of Fountain City, Luann (Rocky) Gibbons of Montgomery, Minn., Jean (Pat) Carter of Rock Hill, S.C., William (Sue) of Winona, Paul (Kelly) of Fountain City, Mark of Fountain City and Judy (Jerry) Haines of Arcadia; 14 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; sister, Carmen Killian of Arcadia; nephew, Ken (Deb) Rotering and their son Drew; niece, Renai Rotering; sister-in-law, Neva (Mike) Hendersen; brother-in-law, Dale (Lois) Burfeind; as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willard, La Verne, Lloyd “Bud” Rotering.
Mass of Christian Burial was held March 1, 2013, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona, Minn. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, rural Arcadia.
