Meetings (03/06/2013)
March 7

Cathedral’s Young at Heart will meet March 7, starting with 12:10 p.m. Mass, followed by a lunch of pork loin, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, pickled beets, apple sauce, roll, and lemon bars. Entertainment will be Sister Mary Jo Baldus and her harp. Make reservation by calling Marge at 454-3433 no later than March 4th. Let her know if you need a ride. All are welcome, the cost is $3.

The Minnesota City First Baptist Ladies Aid will meet Thursday. March 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Country Kitchen.

March 9

The Minnesota City Historical Association  will meet Saturday, March 9, at the former Minnesota City School, 115 Iowa Street, Minnesota City.  The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and is open to the public. The May 18, Minnesota City Day will be discussed. The web page is being regularly updated.  Check it out at www.minnesotacity.org. We are continuing to catalogue pictures that have been submitted and are asking that if anyone has pictures or copies of pictures which they would like to give to the Association, they may bring them to the meeting or send them to the Minnesota City Historical Association, P.O. Box 21, Minnesota City  55959

March 11

Stockton, Rollingstone, Minnesota City Watershed District monthly meeting will be held March 11, at 7 p.m.  at the Stockton Community Center, 8600 D St. in Stockton.

The March meeting of the Chautauqua Club will take place on Monday, March 11, at the Winona County Historical Society.  The meeting will begin at noon and will be hosted by Judy Rusert.  Katherine Gilmer will be the co-hostess and the program will be presented by Megan Ping.  Members are reminded to call the hostess at least 24 hours in advance if they are unable to attend the meeting.

March 13

Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Ag Service Center, 400 Wilson Street, Lewiston.

March 14

The Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table will have its next meeting on Thursday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. This month an intriguing presentation will be given by Kathy Goodman of Alma, Wis., on the topic of “Old Abe and the Buffalo Rifles.”  All are invited and refreshments will be served.

March 20

Harvest House, a nonprofit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, March 20, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus hall.  Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting.  Guest speaker is Jeanne Thorson, restoration and history on dolls.  Bring one from home to share with everyone.   Bring a nonperishable food item for a needy family.  Lunch will be served. Overeater’s Anonymous meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at 1717 Service Drive ( Faith Lutheran Church).

Al-Anon Family Group Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., St. Augustine Room, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street. A 12-step fellowship for families of problem drinkers. 452-4445 for more information.

Addicted? Set Free! is a twelve week program to help you achieve victory over your addicting behaviors. New members are welcome any time. We meet weekly at Calvary Baptist Church, 676 W. Sarnia St., Winona,  at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings.  For more information call 452-6850. 

Celebrate Recovery meets Friday nights at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program. If  you are looking for encouragement, strength and hope in your life please join us. Our evenings begin at 6:00 with dinner followed by worship, large group and small group discussions. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness.  Led by trained p.m. facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.  A family support group meets in Winona at 7:00 p.m., on the second Monday of the month, at Winona Health, 855 Mankato Avenue, in the Parkview conference room. Widowed Meet and Eat --- Socialization is the greatest need of widowed people. Come and join us every Monday in March at Perkins at 11 a.m. Please call Gladys 452-1555 for information.

The Widowed Persons Social Group (Mar.) meets for breakfast every Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. at the Country Kitchen. Dinners every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Timbers Restaurant. For information call Gen at 507-452-8334, or 507-458-4258. All calls and messages answered.

TOPS MN #823 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight loss support group meets Fridays at 7:30 a.m. at St. Casimir’s, 626 West Broadway. For information call 452-5535.

Caregiver Support Group for Adults Age 55 & Better Group provides an opportunity to meet with other caregivers to exchange helpful tips, give and receive support, as well as learn about new resources. The group meets the 1st Wednesday of each month from 2-3 p.m. at the Elder Network office, 1756 Kraemer Drive, Suite 110, Winona.  Contact Renee Kreter at 452-0580 for more information.

Stepping Up is a support group for friends and relatives who again find themselves in the role of parent. The group meets twice a month to discuss a variety of topics such as: child-rearing within the context of current lifestyles, social media, socializing with peers, responsibility and authority roles. Please join us for support and discussion. When: 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Central Building Room 114 (317 Market Street) Please use Northwest entrance, off the playground. Discussions will be facilitated by Jen Whetstone, LICSW Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center, Angela McQuinn, LSW Winona Area Public Schools. In the event of school closing/cancellations, group will also be canceled.

Peer Support Network (PSN) is open 7 days per week. Hours are: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m-2 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. PSN is located at 122 West Second St. in Winona.

DivorceCare is a free weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. If you or someone you know is going through a divorce, make sure he or she knows about DivorceCare. It might just be the best thing you could do to help.
