Thomas E. Bauer, age 71, of Altura, Minn., passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Winona Health after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.
Tom was born on March 7, 1941, in Winona, Minn., to Harry and Alice (English) Bauer. He married Barbara Dietrich and they had four children; they were later divorced. On January 23, 1982, he married Debra Nelson at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona.
He was a member of Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura. Tom honorably served his country with the US Navy from 1957 to 1961 and had been employed by Peerless Chain. Following his retirement, Tom enjoyed spending his time traveling, camping, fishing and woodworking.
Tom is survived by his wife, Deb Bauer; children: Scott and Penny Bauer and their children, Jason, Judy and Jazlynn; Alex and Margee Bauer and their children, Andrew and Erik; Troy “Boomer” and Kirsten Bauer and their children, Brooke and Lauren; and Kris and Tim Van Kirk and their children, Ben, Sarah and Katie; brothers and sisters: Harry and Shirley Bauer, Joyce and Howard Mondry, Rich and Marlene Bauer, Louise and Rich Cook, John and Barb Bauer and Donna and Sonny Roedeske; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 1st Ave. SE, Altura, Minn. The Reverend Michael A. Lindemann and the Reverend John Dermé will officiate.
Tom will be laid to rest in Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altura, Minn., on Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Tom’s children and grandchildren.
