Winona Dyslexia Group offers scholarships in how to teach reading (03/10/2013)
You can help make a difference in the life of a child who is struggling to read

Comprehensive Basic and Advanced training in the Orten-Gillingham teaching approach will be offered at the Rochester Reading Center Dyslexia Institute of Minnesota. The Winona Dyslexia Group and The Rochester Reading Center have worked together throughout the year to provide training to any anyone in the Winona area to help children who are struggling with reading.

Through the Mark R. Pryor Foundation, The Winona Dyslexia Group has given scholarships to area tutors who are now helping over 25 students in Winona area schools. The scholarship waives the cost of tuition, materials and mileage which is approximately $1,500 per person.

Current professionals, parents and retirees are encouraged to apply. A $100 non-refundable tuition fee is required for registration.

Upon completion of the training, individuals will be eligible to tutor students after school and will be paid for their time.

Tutoring sites include Bluffview Montessori, Ridgeway Community School, Riverway Community School, St. John’s Lutheran School in Nodine and St. Matthews’s School in Winona. However students attending any school in the surrounding area can benefit from tutoring at these sites.

ABOUT THE MARK R. PRYOR FOUNDATION

The Winona Dyslexia Group was founded by the late Ronald D. Pryor of Winona.

It was his wish that funds be provided to train tutors to help students “find their own special talents.” The scholarship foundation was created in memory of his son, Mark R. Pryor.
