Caring when it truly mattered (03/13/2013)
From: Steven Rumstich
When our mother passed away one year ago, a stranger reached out to us. Not only did he convey his condolences, but he sent us something that he had made and thought we would like. What he gave us was a compact disc of his music. He pointed out one of the songs was about a special lady that was his grandmother. In the song he tells of her later years proving to be unkind, how he loved her dearly and by faith will see her again. Her name, as is the song’s, was Evelyn. The obituary of our mother told about the difficulty in her later years and of our being able and wanting to care for someone so deserving. Our mother’s name was also Evelyn and he had been moved to write us. The stranger is a Winona-born singer/songwriter by the name of Tom Hipps who was living in Minneapolis. On this the one-year anniversary of our mother’s going home we wanted to remember her and say thanks again to someone who also thought to care when it truly mattered.
