Wood, Constance Joan Anders (03/13/2013)
Constance Joan Anders Wood, age 82, of Winona, died suddenly on the evening of March 6, 2013, at her home. She was born on January 13, 1931, the oldest of six children of Milo and Dorothy (Robinson) Anders in Oelwein, Iowa.

Connie grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1949. She graduated from Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota in 1952 and in January of 1952 married Ross Wood at her Aunt Merle’s home in St. Charles, Minnesota. They came back to Winona in 1955. Connie worked as a Registered Nurse at Winona General Hospital and then Winona Community Memorial Hospital. Connie took great pride in her chosen profession, and her caring and compassionate nature served her well until her retirement at age 70.

Connie was actively involved in her church community at Wesley United Methodist and was a volunteer with many organizations, most notably the Red Cross, Community Education and in recent years, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.

Connie loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge groups starting in the 1950s and continuing until her death. There was not a week that went by that she was not playing bridge somewhere.

She was the matriarch and foundation of our family. She was happiest when surrounded by her immediate and extended family and her dear, wonderful friends. Her generous nature, extraordinary sense of humor, her gift for making everyone around her feel special and loved, and her seemingly endless supply of faith and strength will live on in all who knew her.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Ross (2001) and son, James (1994); her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Curtis Morem; sister-in-law, Betty Schoenfeld; and brother-in-law, Doug Wood.

Connie will be greatly missed by her children, Paul Wood, of Winona, Joan (Chip) Hinds, of Winona, Jane (Glenn) Manske of Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren: Marc and John Onorati, Will, Katie and Constance Manske and Chelsey Burros; and her mother, Karen; brothers, Dean (Carol) Anders, of Solvang, Calif., Duane Anders, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, David (Lynn) Anders, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, James (Beverly) Anders, of Grand Island, Neb.; sister, Nancy (Mel) Tibbitts, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, Winona, with Rev. Mary Hurmence officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, Minn.

Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com. Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, and Winona, Minn.
