Wieczorek, David A. (03/31/2013)

David A. Wieczorek, 72, of†Winona, Minn., passed away on†Sunday, March 24, 2013.†

David†was born in†Cresco, Iowa, on†October 29, 1940, to Isadore and Mary (Patzner) Wieczorek. He graduated from Cotter High School in 1958 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Panama. Following his return, David worked on the railroad, stationed in western Minnesota. He later moved back to Winona with his family, where he joined the Iron Workers Union and built bridges and buildings throughout Minnesota. David married the love of his life, Elaine Stever,†on†September 28, 1963.

He was an avid golfer, diehard bowler, and enthusiastic hunter. He enjoyed many outdoor activities with his family and going on motorcycle trips with Elaine until he was injured on the job 33 years ago. He continued to enjoy many family adventures, traveling throughout the United States. He loved going around the lakes on the bike path and spending time in the sunshine. He was a dedicated family man, devout Catholic active in the church and was always happiest surrounded by his family.

David is survived by†his wife, Elaine (Stever), along with six children: Adam and Polly (Oas) Wieczorek of Woodbury, Minn., Kim Wieczorek and Mark Cryer of Chittenango, N.Y., Jennifer Breitlow of Winona, Minn., Anthony and Tamara (Wisniewski) Wieczorek of Lindenhurst, Ill., Katy and Rich Anthony, of Winona, Minn., and Sara and Scott Weneck of Denver, Colo., 11 grandchildren: Brandon, Ian, Zachary, Duncan, David, Carly, Marcus, Christian, Amanda, Cole, and Mira; sister-in-law: Carole Stever; six siblings: Jim (Joan) Wieczorek, Eileen Schaefer, MaryAnn McDonald, Dixie (Don) Peshon, Larry (Rita) Wieczorek, and Tom (Kris) Wieczorek; and many loving nieces, nephews and relatives.

He†was preceded in death by†his parents; brother, Wayne; sister, Marjorie; and beloved dog, Buddy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Casimirís Catholic Church, 626 W. Broadway, Winona. The Reverend Monsignor Richard Colletti will officiate.

David will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 will provide full military honors.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 201 Mankato Ave., Winona, on Sunday, March 31, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., where Monsignor Colletti will lead a Christian Wake Service at 4 p.m. There will not be any visitation held on Monday; please meet at the church for Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to donorís choice or to†the Lake Park Trail Fund, Memory of David Wieczorek, c/o Winona Community Foundation, 51 E. 4th St. Suite 314, Winona, MN. This fund is to resurface the bike path that David enjoyed so much.

The family of†David†wishes to thank all of the caregivers who provided excellent care throughout the years, especially Patti, Rose and Bev.

David will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, self-discipline, crooning by the campfire, playing cards with his sisters, and devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate to know him.
