Kostner, Bernice M. (04/07/2013)

Bernice M. Kostner, age 88, of Winona, Minn., passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Lake Winona Manor.

Bernice was born on July 8, 1924, in Waumandee, Wis., to Peter and Antoinette (Boberg) Grulkowski, Sr. and grew up in Arcadia, Wis. On June 22, 1948, she married Carlton G. “Babe” Kostner; they later divorced.

She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Eagle’s Club, VFW and Redmen’s Club. For 17 years, Bernice had been employed as a sales clerk at JC Penney. She was also a cancer survivor.

Relaxing and sitting on her front porch, barbecuing, afternoon rides, trips to the casino and cheering for the Green Bay Packers were activities Bernice enjoyed. Most of all she loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had lots of love with a heart of gold and accepted everyone. She loved a good time and lived a good life.

Bernice is survived by her children, Sherry (Dave) Duffy, Winona, Minn., Debbie (Bill) Dulek, Winona, Minn., and Randy Kostner, Winona, Minn.; grandchildren, Stacy (Nathan) Carlsrud, Jennifer Duffy, Travis (Amy) Kostner and Casey (Wayne) Eaton; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Eaton, Miah Eaton, Madeline Duffy and Berklee Kostner; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Robert and Gary; infant daughter, Nancy; sister, Dorothy Misch; and brother, Peter Grulkowski Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Bernice will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Arcadia, Wis.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Monday, April 8, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. where Monsignor Robert G. Meyer will lead a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. There will not be any visitation held on Tuesday – please meet at church for Mass.

Pallbearers will be Dave Duffy, Bill Dulek, Travis Kostner, Bob Allred, Terry Dvorak and Kim Dvorak.
