James Armstrong, Winona’s first Poet Laureate, will be featured guest writer at the Book Shelf/Blue Heron Coffee Shop this coming Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. His appearance is part of the First Tuesday Laureate’s Writers Series.
The program features a distinguished visiting writer each month and provides a platform for local writers to read their work.
Armstrong, a Professor of English at WSU, has authored two books of poetry, Monument in a Summer Hat, and Blue Lash. He is a recipient of the PEN-New England Discovery Prize, an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship and a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship in poetry.
The Laureates Writers Series, co-sponsored by the Winona Fine Arts Commission, the Book Shelf, and the Blue Heron Coffeehouse, was established to acquaint readers with the work of published authors and to let local writers showcase brief examples of their own work following the featured writer’s presentation.
The progam is free and open to the public.
