The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) is an art museum with many collections: a maritime collection, an American landscape collection, an Impressionist collection, as well as a growing modern art collection. This modern collection contains an important artwork by the famous 20th century painter Georgia O’Keeffe, whose artworks are often as unique, inspired, and personal today, as the day they were created.
To reflect on the MMAM’s Lake George, Autumn made by the artist in 1922, art historian Dr. Dominic Ricciotti will present his discussion Georgia O’Keeffe at Lake George on Wednesday, April 17 from 6 – 7pm. This program is free and open to the public.
During this time in her life, O’Keeffe spent summers at Lake George in upstate New York with the famous art dealer and photographer Alfred Stieglitz, who would become her mentor and whom she would marry in 1924. O’Keeffe’s time at Lake George was pivotal, inspiring a body of artwork representing a diverse stylistic and expressive range. Please join the community for this free program. This discussion is made possible through generous support from the Ernest and Sally Micek family in memory of W.B. “Bill” Gautsch.
