Timothy Wernz, age 69, of Hopkins, Minn., passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013. Preceded in death by brothers David and Todd. Survived by wife, Susan, sons: Jeff Bender (Catherine), Charlie Bender, John Wernz (Kim), grandchildren: Neisha and Tim Bender, Ty and Alissa Wernz, brothers: Bill (Ann), Martin (Amy), sister, Phyllis, and nieces and nephews. Tim was a devoted husband and father. Being a grandfather was the joy of his life. Tim was a tutor at two Hopkins elementary schools. He had a loyal customer following at Walser Toyota.
In earlier years, Tim owned and operated Winona Industries. He was a bridge Diamond Life Master, won many championships and promoted the game. Tim is in the Winona Cotter High School Hall of Fame for his play on a state champion golf team.
He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and in the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C.
Visitation at noon Friday, April 19, and memorial gathering at 1 p.m., both at Fort Snelling Chapel, exit MN55 at Bloomington Rd., and follow signs. Private family interment at Fort Snelling before visitation. Memorials to the Minnesota Literacy Council or the donorís charity.
