The 2013 Annual Meeting of the Buffalo County Historical Society (BCHS) will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Courtroom in the Buffalo County Courthouse. This year’s topic will be the Highways and Byways of Buffalo County, and we are honored to have Bergie Ritscher, former Highway Commissioner for Buffalo County and Orlen Stamm as our guest speakers.
We are looking for former, or current, highway department employees to join in the discussion as we look at the dugways, bridges, conservation practices and more that make Buffalo County’s highway department so unique within our state and country.
Photos, articles and other items on display will be available for visitors before and after the program. There will also be a chance to share your own stories of how Buffalo County’s unique terrain has helped, or hurt, your driving experiences. We are hoping that people will bring stories from the early years of Buffalo County through the present to share, and we hope to preserve the stories for our archives as well.
The program will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. with a short business meeting followed by an update on the Buffalo County Historical Society’s work over the past year. Then Mr. Ritscher, Mr. Stamm, and any other highway department employees will share their stories. Following the program, there will be treats and refreshments in the conference room across from the BCHS office. This is also a time to talk with each other and the speakers, sharing stories or questions.
The general public is invited to this event and we look forward to seeing you there! For more information, feel free to call us at 608-685-6290 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
