I was just watching the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley. (Or should we call it the CBS Evening Opinion?) Obama is once again trying to gain support for his national gun ban agenda and CBS is doing everything they can to help. The President is in Colorado, with a bunch of cops standing behind him, telling us we canít forget Sandy Hook and that we need to enact all of these gun laws to prevent more tragedies.
Pelley is in Connecticut with the parents of some of the slain children from Sandy Hook. They are holding pictures of their children and talking about how the new gun control laws they helped get enacted in Connecticut will help prevent shootings like this from happening again. My heart goes out to these families. But, I canít help feel that even though they have good intentions, their efforts are misguided. They are being used as pawns in a political chess match.
This legislation, which is based on emotions rather than facts, punishes the many for the acts of a few. It takes rights away from law-abiding citizens, rights that men and women in this country fought and died for. The people who commit these heinous acts of violence donít follow our laws. Last time I checked it was illegal to shoot twenty school children!
Think about it. After the new laws have passed in New York, Colorado, and Connecticut that impose more background checks, limit magazine capacity, ban semi-automatic firearms, etc., are your kids really any safer? After Obama, Feinstein, Schumer, Biden, and Bloomberg are done posing for pictures with the parents of the victims, saying ďWe have to do this for the kids,Ē did they really do anything to protect our most precious resource?
These same politicians have been trying to take away your guns for years. They are using these children as stepping stones to their true agenda. They should be ashamed. The day after these laws pass, the schools are still susceptible to the same type of shooting. Then next time, they will want to ban every gun except a single shot and so on until they are all banned.
While nothing we do can guarantee this will never happen again, there are some things we can do that will help prevent it from happening again, unlike the current proposals. We need to limit access at our schoolsí entrances, install metal detectors and cameras, and have an armed security guard, police officer, or school employee in every school.
Letís do something that honors the children that lost their lives at Sandy Hook. Letís do something that will actually PROTECT our children immediately.
