Bombing neither left nor right (04/24/2013)
From: Thomas Lee

April 19, 2013, must have been a sad day for many liberals in this country. It was then revealed that the Boston bombing was not caused by some right wing extremist group. It wasn’t the fault of the GOP. The Tea Party had nothing to do with it, nor did the National Rifle Association. No Right Wing militia was involved.

From the beginning, the bombing had all the earmarks of a Muslim extremist attack. Despite this, political correctness prevented our left wing media, Democrat politicians and, it seems, many other liberals, from even hinting that there just might be a relationship between the bombing and radical Islam. It didn’t prevent them from implicating organizations associated with conservative causes.

The day of the bombings, I talked to a man who said he had been listening to public radio all day and heard that a patriot group was implicated. The source of his misinformation was National Public Radio’s counter-terrorism correspondent Dina Temple-Raston. She said that officials had promising leads and the thinking was “that this is a domestic, extremist attack…April is a big month for antigovernment and right wing individuals. There’s the Columbine anniversary…Hitler’s birthday…the Oklahoma City bombing. The assault of the Branch Davidian complex in Waco.”

Why she didn’t just come right out and say that some faction of the Republican Party is responsible for the bombing, I will never know. Probably she knows all us right wingers were too busy celebrating Hitler’s birthday to take notice of the Boston Marathon. I don’t suppose she found it ironic that Hitler was a leftist/socialist like herself.

Democrat Representative from Maryland Steny Hoyer made an attempt to link the Boston tragedy to budget cuts. Budget cuts caused by the evil Republicans, he surmised, so weakened security that it made it more likely that the bombing would occur. A few weeks earlier, using the same faulty logic, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blamed the sequestration for a mortar explosion that killed eight Marines.

On Wednesday, April 17, on MSNBC, Lawrence O’Donnell stated that the investigation of the bombing could be moving along at a faster pace except for the successful lobbying efforts of the National Rifle Association.

Another MSNBC reporter in an interview with Representative Bennie Thompson D-MS, tried to get him to say that someone on the right was responsible for the bombing. When she was unsuccessful at this she tried a different tactic. She asked him if he was familiar with a letter the Southern Poverty Law Center had sent to Attorney General Holder. Part of the letter read as follows: “As in the period before the Oklahoma City bombings, we are now seeing ominous threats from those who believe that the government is poised to take their guns.” To his credit the congressman didn’t go along with her point of view.

You may recall the same kind of name-calling occurred when Gabby Giffords was shot on January 8, 2011. Her shooter, Jared Loughner, was captured on the scene. The left wing chattering masses assumed he was some sort of a right winger, probably from the Tea Party. As it turned out he was just plain crazy and, at one time, had held some fairly left wing views.

Poor liberals. Looks like they got it wrong again. It almost makes a person feel sorry for them. They wanted so badly for the bomber(s) to be a white racist or perhaps a member of the Tea Party. If the person would have happened to have had a life membership in the NRA, so much the better in their view.

Islamic terrorists have been bombing and killing people all over the world since who knows when. Their clerics preach death to America. They drove planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon while their brothers and sisters in other countries cheered them on. There have been more killings since. But political correctness and a willingness to demonize those who don’t share their political and social views prevented many on the left, especially the media and certain politicians, from suspecting the most obvious perpetrators until the killing and capturing of the bombers last Friday.
