The Winona Brass Band, under the direction of Richard Lindner, offers its Spring Concert on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the St. Cecilia Theater at Cotter High School.
The concert will open with one of the great brass fanfares of all time which was written for the City of Vienna, Austria. The manuscript for this music is dated April 17, 1943, by Richard Strauss. Now titled “Festmusik der Stadt Wien”, it is also known as the “Wiener Fanfare”.
Included in the program is a great brass arrangement of a well-known Stan Kenton ballad, “Here’s That Rainy Day,” Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance – No. 5,” and one of the most interesting and humorous wedding processionals ever written, Bourgeois’ “Serenade.”
The Winona Brass Band is fortunate to attract its members from the greater Winona Area and surrounding areas including Wisconsin and Iowa.
This concert is funded by a free-will offering.
