Flanagan, Charles ‘Chuck’ (05/05/2013)
Charles “Chuck” Flanagan, of Winona, Minnesota, died peacefully at home Wednesday May 1, 2013, as a result of his battle with ALS, with his family at his side.

Charles M. Flanagan was born August 19, 1933, to Charles and Marguerite (McCrady) Flanagan in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Growing up he attended grade school in Albert Lea, Minnesota and graduated from Winnebago High School in Winnebago Minnesota, in 1951.

On July 1, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marlene Ellestad at Central Lutheran Church in Winona. This union was blessed with three children: Dan, Dave, and Terry.

He had a passion for traveling and did so throughout most of the United States. Chuck especially enjoyed wintering in Texas and Arizona as well as Alaskan, Caribbean and Panama Canal cruises. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping and coaching softball. He was a great Viking and Twins fan as well. Chuck was always ready for a good game of cards or dominoes with family and friends. He loved his time spent with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chuck also enjoyed relaxing with a good book. He kept his charismatic and humorous attitude even through his struggles with his health. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was a faithful member of Central Lutheran Church in Winona. Chuck stayed busy through the Goodview Activity Group and was a longtime member of U.A.W. Local 958, Lake Center Switch (TRW) where he served in several positions, including president. He retired from Lake Center Switch in 1999, with over 40 years of employment.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marlene Flanagan, of Winona, Minnesota, son, Dave Flanagan, of Winona, Minnesota, son-in-law, Brad (Donna) McQuinn of Stockton, Minnesota: grandchildren; Lydia Flanagan; Lauren Flanagan; Brandon (Angela) McQuinn; Jason (Beth) McQuinn; and Sarah McQuinn; great-grandchildren: Dominic; Chloe; Tori; Connor; and Kimber; brother-in-law, Art (Kay) Ellestad; sister-in-law, Betty Lou (Jim) Pries and other extended family and friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry McQuinn; son, Dan Flanagan; his parents; and sister and brother–in-law, Sharon and Cal Golden.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at Central Lutheran Church in Winona, with Rev. Beth Krolak officiating. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon McQuinn, Jason McQuinn, Sarah McQuinn, Lydia Flanagan and Lauren Flanagan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to ALS of Minn., 333 North Washington Ave., Suite 105, Minneapolis, Minn., 55401, or Central Lutheran Church, Winona.

Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com. Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona.
