Area man facing assault charges (05/08/2013)
By Chris Rogers

John Edward Carlson, 50, of Winona, was arrested and charged with domestic assault strangulation, domestic assault causing harm, and domestic assault causing fear after he allegedly choked an adult female at 11:23 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, on the street, near the intersection of Mark and Huff streets. The female was distraught and crying when officers arrived, but said that Carlson had grabbed her by the collar and choked her by twisting the collar so tight she could not breathe. The woman had red marks on her neck and her collar was stretched out, according to the report. Carlson initially denied touching the woman, but later admitted to officers that he had grabbed the woman by the collar. The Winona Police Department arrested Carlson and he has been charged by the Winona County Attorney’s Office.
