A fight at the Maplewood Townhomes ended with a loaded pistol being brandished and a police investigation. At 3:50 p.m. on Monday, May 6, Jordan O’Neil Handley was arrested for possession of a weapon in a public housing zone and ineligible person in possession of a firearm after he allegedly waved a loaded, nine millimeter pistol in the air at a group of fighting Maplewood residents, according to the report. Shaquila Brianna Lucky, 19, of Winona, and a 16-year-old female from Winona were allegedly brawling in the park adjacent to the housing complex, when a male became involved or was about to get involved, according to witnesses. Apparently, Handley felt the male’s involvement was improper and so he waved the pistol at the trio, quickly getting their attention, according to the report.
When officers arrived, they were unable to locate the pistol at first. They unsuccessfully searched Handley’s person and his apartment. Then they received information that Handley had given the weapon to a group of females who had driven away in a car. Officers were able to track down that car at a residence in Goodview and subsequently located the loaded gun.
Weapons are prohibited on public housing property and Handley has a prior conviction for domestic assault, which makes it illegal for him to possess a firearm, police officials explained. Witnesses and video recording confirmed that Handley did have the gun in his hand, according to the report.
Lucky and the juvenile female were also ticketed for disorderly conduct. The police report did not indicate that the male subject had been physically involved in the fight.
