The times that try menís souls (05/19/2013)
From: Herbert Peter

These are the times that try peopleís souls. Compassion is urged upon us to support those who would rather live off government handouts than work. Tolerance is urged upon us to accept alternative lifestyles

President Obama has used the word compassion, or fairness, to promote his idea of changing what America stands for, such as following the examples of Europe. The churches in Europe are almost empty. American church attendance has also been declining.

One result is the decline of our work ethics by wanting more leisure time and less work, just like France. This is not compassion.

President Obama has stated that this country must be punished for past events of which he doesnít approve, even though current residents had nothing to do with those events, such as slavery. This is not compassion, but revenge. God says revenge is His, not Obamaís, nor ours.

Tolerance is urged upon us to accept abortions, same-sex marriage, homosexuality, and men and women living together outside of marriage. This is defining deviancy down, as former Senator Patrick Moynihan once said.

St. Paul in 2 Timothy 4:3 told Timothy that the time will come when people will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. That time is here. Love is mentioned by proponents in support of alternative lifestyles. But lust is not love. Christians need to express the fruits of the Spirit, namely love, kindness, gentleness, and self-control. The Christian should gently spread the Gospel of Christ to help people with such tendencies to avoid those lifestyles. Such efforts will be more successful in helping weak people overcome their weakness than bullying, taunting words, or bodily injury.

Christians know that unbelievers will not accept Godís law and gospel. We are close to the end times as written in the Book of Revelation. As trying as times are now, we hope they donít get worse. Regardless of events, our family will follow Godís way until our final time on earth ends. We will not obey any law contrary to Godís will, regardless of ungodly government legislation.
