Jeremy Millerís misinformation (05/19/2013)
From:

The Huelskamps

Lewiston, Minn.

I couldnít believe the amount of misinformation that Sen. Jeremy Miller could put into one statement about the frac sand legislation that passed. First, his claim that he worked on getting anything meaningful passed is laughable. The truth is just the opposite. Sen. Millerís vote killed setbacks from trout streams. These setbacks would appropriately have put the most sensitive areas of southeast Minnesota off limits to frac sand mines. The only solution he advocated was the state creating ďmodel ordinancesĒ for local communities to adopt. This is no solution at all. We need state regulation and enforcement to protect the regionís water, to control silica dust, and to ensure our roads arenít destroyed. Model ordinances donít do that.

Sen. Matt Schmit of Red Wing put out a comprehensive legislative package that would have ensured that we had protections in place before we let the frac sand industry move forward. If Sen. Miller put the interests of his constituents above frac sand special interests, he would have joined with Sen. Schmit in working for them. Sen. Miller is fond of talking about bipartisan action but did not do it when it mattered. In the end the comprehensive package we wanted didnít happen, but provisions did pass that will make a difference. We know who to thank for that Ė Sen. Schmit. First, Sen. Miller let us all down when he refused to support meaningful frac sand legislation. Now he is letting us down again by claiming credit for something he had no role in.
