I am responding to the article by Cindy Killion entitled “Valuing the Worth of Women.” In that article she raises the valid concern of “Why are women continually being assaulted...” With a daughter of my own, I am always more concerned for her safety than for my son.
Where I differ with Cindy is when she used the recent assaults in Ohio and assaults on U.S. military bases as a platform to advocate for abortion. Unrestricted abortion will not solve the assault on women. Abortion laws will not prevent rapists and abusers of women from their crimes. The man who imprisoned the three women in Ohio would have done this with or without abortion laws, and the prevalence of rape would not subside. In fact, abortion is an aid to men of violence, because children of rape are evidence against them.
I would submit that the violence of the abortion industry adds to the perpetual violence of our society. When talking about women’s right to choose, we never hear about the baby who has to die if that choice is abortion. No, the violence of abortion is not the answer to the violence inflicted on women in our society. And approximately half of the babies aborted are also female.
With the recent news of abortionist Kermit Gosnell who was convicted of killing at least three babies who were born alive, not to mention the manslaughter of one of his female patients, we have reason for concern about the violence of infanticide in our society as well.
