Following high school, Ralph joined his father working on the family farm. On September 12, 1950, he and Dorothy Jereczek were married at Pine Creek, Wis. They farmed for over 30 years on the family farm before building their new home adjacent to the family farm in 1980 to enjoy his retirement years, but still continued to help out his sons on their farms up to the last few years.

Ralph had many friends from snowmobiling when he was younger, and enjoyed playing cards for many years. He also enjoyed cutting and splitting wood; having cut 16 cords a year as recently as 2010. He took pride in his apple trees and garden, enjoying giving away the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was very active in the annual Tripenfest at Ginnyís Supper Club. He endured Alzheimerís and Parkinsonís disease for many months.

Ralph was a life time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, belonged to St. Nicholas Society, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid, Luxembourg Museum, Polish Museum and the Luxembourg Society. He served as Norton Township officer for 30 years and was a lifetime member of Winona Elks Lodge #327.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, children; Jo (Gary) Dailey, Duane (Cindy) Herber and Arlan (Lisa) Herber, all of Rollingstone, Scott (Michelle) Herber of Utica, Michael Herber of Rollingstone and Charles (Patti) Herber of Altura, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Marlene Herber and Corrine Herber and a brother-in-law, Herb Speltz. He was preceded in death by a son, Milo, on November 2, 1968 at the age of 17, his parents, two brothers, Prosper and Harold, three sisters, Maxine Kotnour, his twin, Kathleen Speltz and Harriett Duffy.

A funeral Mass for Ralph will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, with the Reverend William Kulas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
