It seems the older we get, the more we need what scripture calls WISDOM. Wondering what to write about this week we wandered into our old files and found this amazing bit of wisdom in a short story.
Gorki tells the story of visiting some Russians way up in a backwards peasant village. He told them of things that were going on in the outside world. He told them that men had learned to fly through the air like birds, and that they had learned to swim under water like fish. The people were excited and overcome by amazement. Then an aged, bearded father arose and said, “You have told us some wonderful things, that men have learned to fly like birds and swim like fish. Have they also learned to live together as human beings?”
Now we all know the answer to that question is NO…definitely NOT! And furthermore, in or by the wisdom of man they will never learn it! YET HERE IS A PARADOX! In the love of God shown in this world by and in Christ, men can discover the love and forgiveness that enables them to live together as children of God, of Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer.
So let’s never give up or lose hope. Let’s not throw in the towel and say we live in a world without hope, in a world which cannot find a way out of its problems and only fights and struggles to gain happiness in things and material pleasures.
Dear reader, the wisdom of God is in Christ, and He who is the wisdom of God is the most important discovery one can make for time and eternity. We all need this, the Russians, the Koreans, the people of the Middle East, the Syrians; the whole world needs it like never before, especially what the world calls Washington and its inhabitants. And finally, all of us need this wisdom.
It is high time that children of God living in the grace of God permeate the churches, their communities and the world with the wisdom of God which is Christ the Lord.
