Thank you (06/02/2013)
From: The SAC Committee: Molli Kook, Pat Beckman, Mindy Reinardy and Cami Huughes

The Special Athletic Committee would like to thank SOOO many people for a successful event on May 17th! The Special Athletic Competition Track and Field Event (SAC) was hosted at the Saint Mary’s University’s Gostomski Fieldhouse because of the rain, and was “home” for the morning to 190 athletes from 21 different schools in the Southeast Minnesota region. These athletes had a choice of competing in six track and field events and participating in other activities such as: bounce houses, recreational games, face painting and crafts. The National Anthem was sung beautifully by two of the athletes, the T-shirt design was created by one of the athletes and Captain Winhawk made an appearance. The athletes were smiling from ear to ear! We could do this ONLY with the generous support of many businesses, organizations and people, including: Winona Area Public Schools, Terrie Lueck and Nikki Fennern at SMU, Kiwanis, Red Men Club, Ray Felton, Al and Julie Beth, Kae and Roger Brand, Nate Emerson, Delta Phi Epsilon, Eric Barnard and his students from the Winona State University Outdoor Education and Recreation Program, Winona Senior High School volunteers from the National Honor Society and Student Council, Minnesota City Bus Company and all the others who donated their time, supplies and helped assemble snack bags and participant medals.

Thank you SO much to everyone for making this an awesome event! As the committee is wrapping up this year’s event, we are excited to continue with this tradition, which was started in 1975 by the Kiwanis, by looking forward to planning for next year!
