Juan Marthinus Kleinhans, 38, of Rollingstone, allegedly pointed a gun at the occupants of a vehicle beside him while sitting at the stoplight at the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 61 last Thursday. An off-duty Winona police officer was also stopped at the light when he heard some yelling and saw Kleinhans pointing a handgun at another vehicle, according to the report. The Winona County Sheriff’s Department stopped Kleinhans at the intersection of Highway 248 and Highway 61 in Minnesota City. With her gun drawn, a lone deputy arrested Kleinhans at 4:15 p.m and discovered the man’s handgun, loaded, in the center console of the car.
It is unclear exactly why Kleinhans pointed his weapon at the occupants of the other vehicle; however, it appeared that road rage may have been a factor. Kleinhans told police that he “just wanted them to know I was armed,” according to the report. Kleinhans had a legal permit to carry.
Kleinhans is being referred for second-degree assault.
