From: Marie Barrientos, Executive Director
Doris Killian Board Chair of the American Red Cross Serving Winona, Wabasha, and Goodhue Counties
On behalf of the American Red Cross and all those affected by the recent rash of disasters across the country, we want to thank our local community for your support. We recently put out a call for help for all those affected by the spring storms, including the devastating Oklahoma tornado, and you responded generously. Over $10,000 was raised at Midtown and Hy-Vee in less than two days, not to mention the support received online and through the mail.
It is going to be a long road to recovery, but your gifts will provide relief items, shelter, hot meals, snacks, mental health support, health services, and much more to all those in need. We want to thank Midtown and Hy-Vee for supporting us with the space to raise some much needed funds.
A huge thank-you to our local media outlets (HBC, Winona Daily News, and Winona Post) for helping raise awareness of the event. A special thank-you to everyone at Winona Radio for the live coverage and interviews throughout the day.
The American Red Cross staff and volunteers are trained to be at our best when times are at their worst. We help prevent and alleviate suffering in the face of an emergency by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We are surrounded by the beauty of nature and the generosity of people who simply want to help, near and far. Thank you.
