Jane Cowgillís letter in the last edition of the Post concerning trucks through the city was right on. Iíve only lived in Winona for about 18 months, but upon arriving, I was immediately struck by the number of large trucks that zig-zagged through the city. Do we really want a road (Sarnia) adjacent to a park to be a truck route? The lakes prevent the trucks from going directly to the bridge from Highway 61, and we certainly donít want them going down Huff Street, even though that would be the most direct route.
I feel Highway 61 to Pelzer, then to River Drive and Huff would be the best route to the bridge and have the least impact. If this route isnít workable, then perhaps Mankato to Second and then to the bridge.
The Kensington Apartment building (where I live) is affected daily by large trucks. The building vibrates as they pass by on Fourth Street heading to the bridge. There are no easy solutions, but shouldnít citizenís health and quality of life be a priority?
