Grande Parade Marshal named (06/16/2013)
The Winona Steamboat Days Festival Committee is proud to announce the Grand Marshal for the 2013 Grande Parade is Luke Merchlewitz. This is Luke’s second Steamboat Days honor. He was Steamboat Days Harbormaster in 2010 and redefined the role of Harbormaster during his reign. Luke is well known for his volunteer roles over the years with more than 20 nonprofit organizations.

He just completed his 25th year of teaching at Washington-Kosciusko Elementary School and he has been an adjunct faculty member with Winona State University since 2005.

Luke’s most notable honors include Winona Teacher of the Year – 2009, Minnesota Teacher of the year Top 10 Finalist – 2010, and Minnesota Teacher of Excellence – 2011.

Luke is the son of Frank and Bonnie Merchlewitz. He is married to Brenda, they have two children. Their daughter Sarah shares her parents love for teaching in the NYC Public School System. Their son Peter is a Security Specialist in Dallas, TX.

Look for Luke in the Steamboat Days Grande Parade on Sunday, June 23rd. Parade start time is 12:31 p.m. The parade goes west down Broadway from St Charles Street to Center Street.
