Joan Ostrander, 59, of Winona, died peacefully in her home on Friday, June 14, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones after a 10-year battle with cancer.
Joan was born on August 9, 1953, to Ronald and Patricia Miller. She was raised in Independence, Wis. She lived many places throughout her life before making a home in Winona, Minn. She enjoyed playing cards and fishing. One of her biggest enjoyments in life was hosting her annual 4th of July picnic for all of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her best friend and life partner, Richard Lynn; six children, Gary Ostrander (Janet) of Winona, Michael Ostrander (Lori) of Lewiston, Dawn Garver (Mark) of Wells, Candice Steinfeldt of Winona, Kelley Kamrowski (James) of Lewiston; and Nick Ostrander (Tanya) of Lewiston, nine grandchildren; three sisters, Carol Miller of La Crosse, Betty Corey of Arizona, Marie Miller of Winona; and one brother, Ronald Miller of Arizona, along with her friends til the end, Simone, Alex, and Kitty.
A service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona, Minn., from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Joan’s honor to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cff.org) or Hospice (www.hospicenet.org).
