Buffalo County Public Health July services (06/19/2013)
By
Buffalo County Public Health will offer the following health screenings and services in July:

Women, Infant, & Children (WIC) Clinics. Buffalo and Pepin County residents are served by the Buffalo-Pepin WIC Program, headquartered in Alma. WIC is a preventative health and nutrition education program for eligible women (pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum), infants, and children under 5 years of age. WIC serves families who are at or below 185% of the federal poverty level and who have a health or nutrition need. The program provides nutritious food; nutrition education; and health screening for growth, anemia, and lead poisoning. Clients are seen by appointment only at the clinics listed below; please call 715-495-1556 to schedule an appointment.

Alma

407 South Second St, Floor 3

July 11, 8:30 am 3 pm

July 18, 1-5 pm

Immunization Clinics. Buffalo County Public Health offers a variety of vaccinations to the public, including vaccinations for children, HPV (Human Papillomavirus Vaccine) for adolescents, and Tetanus boosters (Td or Tdap) for adults. Most vaccines are free of charge to qualifying individuals. As a reminder, adults can carry pertussis or whooping cough and transmit it to children who are not fully protected so please make sure you get your one-time dose of Tdap if you are around young children and it has been at least five years since your last tetanus booster.

Please note, if you have had a recent change in health insurance and/or vaccines are not adequately covered or your provider no longer accepts BadgerCare, the Health Department is here to serve you.

In lieu of immunization clinics in Alma, we offer appointments for residents to better suit your needs. To schedule an appointment for immunizations, please contact the Health Department at 608-685-6329.

Radon Test Kits. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. A radon test kit is available to Buffalo County residents for $10.00. Kits are available at the Department of Health and Human Services, located on the 3rd floor of the Buffalo County Courthouse in Alma. For more information on radon, call 608-685-6331.

Free Dental Services. Oral fluoride supplements are available for individuals 6 months through 16 years of age. A water test for those not on fluoridated city water supplies is required to determine the existing level of fluoride in your water; this test can be obtained from the Health Department. Please call 608-685-6329 for more information.

Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening.

The Wisconsin Well Woman Program (WWWP) pays for preventive health screening services such as mammograms and pap tests to women 35-64 years old who are uninsured or underinsured (ie-high deductibles). Covered services are available from a variety of nearby health care providers at no cost to the woman. There is no premium, co-payment or deductible. Call the Health Department at 608-685-6329 to find out if you are eligible and to learn more about this program.

To schedule appointments, if needed, or for more information about any of these screenings and services, please call Buffalo County Public Health at 608-685-4412 or visit our website at www.buffalocountypublichealth.com.
