William and Margaret (Connolly) Devine proudly announced the birth of their son, Gerald William, on October 24, 1927, in Blakely Township. He was the oldest of seventeen children. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Most of his career was spent working on the farm and for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, for over 25 years.
On December 30, 1967, Jerry married Mary Jo Moriarty at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, Minn. They were blessed with four daughters. A true family man, Jerry loved and cherished his family. He enjoyed dancing, horses, baseball, pitching ball to the kids and bowling. Jerry was proud of being sober for almost 60 years and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart and Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church.
A proud American and Irishman, Jerry had a great sense of humor and was a true man of integrity. He was also a hero, second dad and mentor to many. Jerry, age 85, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2013, at St. Anne of Winona.
Deeply missed and remembered always by daughters, Geraldine “Geri” (Curtis) Pratt, Joanne (Steve) O’Loughlin, Sheila (John) Lambrecht, Colleen Devine; son at heart, Rob (Eydie) Edberg; grandchildren, Josh, Danielle and Jonathan Pratt, Rob and Keri O’Loughlin, Dillon and Ireland Lambrecht; nine siblings; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by wife, Mary Jo; granddaughter, Stephanie Pratt; parents; and seven siblings. Pall bearers were Dillon Lambrecht, Rob O’Loughlin, Josh Pratt, Jonathan Pratt, Dale Devine, Nathan Gerdes, Pat Edberg and Mary Krant.
The Mass of Christian Burial was on Wednesday at 5 p.m., with visitation two hours prior all at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, Minn. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
