Charles R. Erwin, of Ballwin, Mo., died Sunday June 23, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.
Charles, “Chuck” was born in Winona, Minn., to C.B. and Margaret (Siewert) Erwin. He served in the Army as a military policeman in the Panama Canal Zone. After the Army, Chuck went back to school, graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Winona State University.
He worked for Shell Oil Company for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990 in St. Louis, Mo. In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed hunting and fishing at the family boathouse, golfing, attending the Shell retiree luncheons, working on carpentry projects in his wood shop, and spending time with his 10 grandchildren.
He’s survived by his wife, Phyl, Ballwin, Mo.; six children: Joni (Dan) Jones, Bolingbrook, Ill., Mark (Jan) Erwin, Winona, Minn., Scott (Wendy) Erwin, Goodyear, Ariz.; Jan (Jim) Gilmer, Jordan, Minn.; Christine (Steve) Ford, Florissant, Mo.; Connie (Peter) Oster, Ballwin, Mo.; ten grandchildren: Michelle Erwin, Ryan and Carolyn Jones, Kyle and Kelsey Erwin, Nick, Cody and Andy Ford, Max and Megan Oster.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerald Michael, his parents, two sisters, Charlotte and Betty, and his loyal black lab, Tor.
